Dublin City Business Improvement District announces

Zero Tolerance on Capital’s Graffiti

The Dublin City Business Improvement District (DBID) today announced a ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy on graffiti in the city centre with an intensive graffiti assessment and removal campaign.

Businesses in the Business Improvement District area are invited to contact the BID office on (01-6334680) or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to alert them of incidences of graffiti when it happens. In response a BID street ambassador will visit the premises to assess the most appropriate removal technique and instigate its removal. For smaller scale graffiti the Dublin BID company will provide ‘self-help’ graffiti kits for businesses. These kits are designed to remove graffiti from shutters and windows. Training which is essential to ensure the correct use of the pack will also be provided by the Dublin City BID team.

According to Richard Guiney, CEO of Dublin City Business Improvement District, “Dublin is a wonderful city with so much to offer the people that use it. Unfortunately like any capital city around the world there is a minority that lessens the experience for others. Similar to the Business Improvement Districts in the US our goal is to ultimately rid the city centre of graffiti. The zero-tolerance system is effective because eventually the graffiti artists cease their activities as they realize that when undertaken it will, as quickly, be removed.”

The Dublin City Centre Business Improvement District, was established by business leaders in Dublin 1 and Dublin 2, earlier this year to provide a range of additional services to make the area a more attractive place for customers to visit and people to do business in. It will deliver world class environmental standards on the streets of the Capital. Services will include Street Cleaning, Capital Improvements, Local Community Initiatives and Area Marketing.

The launch of the Graffiti removal campaign is one of a number of recent initiatives introduced by the Dublin City Business Improvement District. The most recent one is the funding, in partnership with businesses in the area, the dramatic new energy efficient Christmas street lights around the Capital. The design of the lights was chosen by the businesses in each street to suit the character of their respective areas. The new lights can be seen on Henry St/Mary St, South Anne Street, St Andrew St., Talbot St, Trinity Street, North Earl Street and South Great Georges St.

The Dublin City Business Improvement District has already introduced full-time Street Ambassadors to the city for the first time who now patrol the streets of the city daily. Their role is to monitor cleanliness, identify improvements that can be made, identify security issues and assist the general public to create a more welcoming environment for the city centre.
