Henry Street Lights Switch On
Total Festive Lights Investment Over €400,000
On Sunday 15th November, Dublin’s Henry Street will be transformed into a shimmering, shining wonderland with the switching on of the first festive lights in the capital, marking the start of the Christmas season in the city. The Dublin City Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with the retailers, restaurants and businesses on Henry Street, has invested €300,000 in festive lights for the Henry Street area, stretching 1.5km from Amiens Street to Capel Street. The dramatic lights will be officially switched on at 4.00pm by RTE presenter Miriam O’Callaghan on behalf of the ISPCC. She will be joined by Jamie, her three year old son.
The magnificent lights have been created by 2B Light Company and MK Illuminations. This year Dublin City has made the big switch and Bord Gais Energy will provide the electricity to power the entire lighting display.
The Dublin City BID has also provided financial support so that seven new streets within the BID area will receive Christmas lights for the first time, creating a ‘festival of lights’ of the highest European standard and design in the Capital. So you can walk throughout the city centre and enjoy the unique atmosphere under a canopy of twinkling lights. Festive street lights will shine for the first time on Drury Street, Cathedral Street, Coppinger Row, Capel Street, South King Street, Talbot Street and Moore Street, further enhancing the Christmas magic in the city. This year the Dublin City BID has invested a total of over €400,000 on festive lights for the city.
According to Richard Guiney, CEO of Dublin City Business Improvement District, “Christmas in Dublin is a magical experience, the enchanting atmosphere is unmissable and is something that people travel from all over the world to our capital city each year to enjoy and experience. We can all remember the excitement and thrill of going into Dublin City as children at Christmas time.We have worked in partnership with the businesses in the Henry Street area, to create a truly festive atmosphere that we hope all will enjoy. We are also delighted to have made the big switch to Bord Gais Energy and would like to thank them for providing the energy to brighten our streets. I would encourage young and old to come in and experience the city this Christmas - relive a childhood memory or create a new Dublin City Christmas memory with your own children”

Join story teller Susie Minto in the Jervis Shopping Centre, while Conor Lambert’s Custard Pie Puppet Company will entertain with live interactive puppet shows in the Ilac Shopping Centre; both part of the BIDs for KIDs Winter Programme.
